The Golden Hat: Talking Back to Autism

I told you last month about a luncheon I attended at the Ladies' Home Journal offices to learn more about Kate Winslet's Golden Hat Foundation, established to help those with the most severe forms of non-verbal autism. Inspired after she narrated the award-winning documentary A Mother’s Courage: Talking Back to Autism, about a boy with nonverbal autism and his mother's efforts to help him communicate, Winslet launched this charity to help those with the more severe forms of autism. The Foundation's first major fundraising project is Winslet's new book, The Golden Hat: Talking Back to Autism, which is available in bookstores tomorrow. I've seen the book and it is an amazing collection of photos and special messages from celebrities who are donning a special "golden hat" in honor of autism awareness. t and taking their self-portraits. Each person also gives a special written message to those with autism. It is a gorgeous book and I encourage you to buy it (you can order it today from Amazon.com for $19.77). Please also visit the Golden Hat Foundation to learn more about its work, which is even more critical in light of the new prevalence rates of autism in the U.S.

Today is World Autism Awareness Day. Follow me on Twitter today for more information including my live tweets from a U.N. press briefing this afternoon.
