I mentioned before that I saved my childhood Beverly Cleary and Judy Blume books. My 8 1/2 year old daughter hasn't been too impressed (she read a few Ramona books here and there, but wasn't as riveted as I thought she'd be). But I'm trying again with a new copy of Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great. Because I'm guessing that the wonderful tale of Sheila, whose outwardly tough personality belies her inner worries and fears, might resonate a bit. Sheila was a wonderfully strong and human character to me when I first read July Blume decades ago; I hope my own daughter finds her the same. The latest edition of the paperback costs $5.99 at Amazon.com.
Did you save your old books from childhood? Do your kids read them?
