If you are a special needs mom, or a single mom, or both (like me), you must read this excellent piece by Hannah Brown in today's "Modern Love" column in The New York Times. It's called Devoted but Dateless and it describes the author's efforts to find love while raising her autistic teenage son and his younger brother on her own. It's honest, moving, and, as I can personally attest having experienced until recently, heartbreakingly true. I applaud Hannah Brown (whom I've had the honor of "meeting" virtually this weekend) for telling people what it's "really like." Please take a moment to read the essay.
