5 Favorite Books for Preschool Boys

I wrote a post a long time ago about board books for baby boys; this is an update with picture book recommendations for preschool-aged boys. Of course, these books may appeal equally to girls, but these happen to be ones that my son (now age 5 1/2) particularly loved as a preschooler. They make great birthday gifts for boys ages two through four, and all are available at Amazon.com.

Clang! Clang! Beep! Beep!: Listen to the City ($12.74). My sister gave S. this book which is full of cheerful illustrations of city life and rhymes about all the noises that greet a child from morning till bedtime.

The Adventures of Taxi Dog ($10.37). This classic by Debra and Sal Barracca has a fun, rhyming story as well as richly detailed illustrations--we noticed something new each time we read it.

David Goes To School ($10.36). I've extolled the virtues of the No David! series before and this is one of its best installations. My son likes the picture where David sheepishly crosses his legs and his teacher asks, "Again???"

Little Boy ($10.87). OK, so this book is possibly more for Mom than her little boy. It's a sentimental book about how the littlest moments and simplest acts of playing make a little boy all the wonderful things that he is.

My Truck is Stuck! ($10.19). I wasn't the biggest fan of this book, but S. loved it. It's a lyrical rhyming story all about--you guessed it--getting a truck stuck and then rescued.

What are some of your favorite books for preschool boys? Leave us the titles in the comments below.
