Watch Me Meet Princess Diana, July 1991

I got the most wonderful surprise yesterday. I stumbled onto this You Tube video of Princess Diana celebrating her 30th birthday at the Savoy Hotel in London, on July 1st, 1991. Which is the exact occasion where I met her outside. I thought maybe there was a tiny chance I was captured on the video, too. Sure enough, at the end of the video (around 00:58 seconds) I clearly saw myself taking her picture and talking to her. It was actually the 2nd time that occasion that I saw her (she came over to us both before the luncheon, and afterwards--which was when this clip was taken). I'm the 18-year-old (!) in a navy barn jacket, taking Diana's picture with my clunky 1991 camera, and holding a sign. For a teenager who had just met her childhood idol in person for the 1st time, it was one of the most amazing moments of my life, something I will always remember. Others remember that day vividly, too...in another amazing coincidence, a blog reader from Canada e-mailed me that she was in the crowd that very same moment! We are swapping our photos.

What an amazing gift it was for me to find this online, 20 years to the day after it happened. Thank you, You Tube!
