Smock it To Me

Check out these beautiful, thick letterpress cards from Smock, an upstate NY shop whose stationery, besides being exquisite, happens to be made of sustainable bamboo. I picked up Smock's press packet at the National Stationery Show and even their business card is luscious! Smock designs social stationery, greeting cards, and even custom wedding invitations. Before there were Manolos, there were Legwarmers

OK, so the Sex and the City movie got panned by The New York Times today. No matter, I'm seeing it anyway. But if you want to see Sarah Jessica Parker in an early small-screen star turn, I highly recommend the new DVD release of Square Pegs - The Complete Series, the sitcom in which SJP starred way back in 1982. In this series- which has rarely been seen in syndication over the past 26 (!!!) years, Parker plays Patty, a brainy, nerdy girl desperately trying to win popularity- or at least acceptance- in high school along with her best friend Lauren. Are any of you also old enough to remember episodes like Devo playing at the Bat Mitzvah of Muffy Tepperman (played by Jami Gertz, in a career-launching role)? Bill Murray appearing as an unusual substitute teacher? Traci Nelson as resident Valley Girl Jennifer Di Nuccio ("Like, totally gag me with a spoon")? When I worked at the Museum of Television & Radio (now called The Paley Center) way back when, my Gen X co-workers and I used to watch these episodes during our lunch hours. They are THAT GOOD. Treat yourself (or a 30 or 40-something friend) to a blast from the past; buy the series for $24.95 at Amazon.com.

I Enjoy Being a Girl

I've noticed two beautiful pink bedding sets in recent catalogs, Garnet Hill and The Land of Nod. If my daughter loved pink (she now favors blue, and occasionally purple), I would love to consider these for her:

Pink Floral Appliqued Rose Girls Bedding - Twin Comforter Cover by Land of Nod ($79 for twin comforter). So pretty!

Hourglass Quilt and Sham by Garnet Hill ($118 for twin quilt, also avaiable in vanilla or white). Check out the coordinating signature scalloped percale sheet set- I have this on my own bed and love it.

Vida's Market

More fun goings-on this weekend here in NYC. Later on Saturday, I'll be checking out Vida's Market, which touts itself as "the first market in New York City dedicated to selling handcrafted, original items for children, babies and expecting moms. . . a place where up-and-coming designers can show their work to the public." Sounds great to me! Vida's Market takes place on Saturday, May 31st at Saint Ignatius Loyola Church at 980 Park Ave (between 83rd and 84th Streets). Check it out (and, if you can't, browse their list of vendors, which I hope to preview before my in-person visit)! I will duly report back, of course.

Happy Camper

My son is wearing this fab camp-style
boys' patchwork shirt from Gymboree today and he looks so cute. He also has the matching frayed-edge bucket hat (no longer available) and sporty white roll-up pants (on sale for $11.99). The shirt mixes plaid, stripe, and tropical patterns and has faux "coconut" buttons; it's available in sizes up to 2T and is a steal at just $7.19 (originally $24.50) at Gymboree.com.

If You'd Like to Help Out...

Hey! There's still time to sponsor me and my kids for this weekend's YAI Central Park Challenge, a fundraising walk for the award-winning organization which has provided Early Intervention to both of my children (and of which I am a proud Board Member). Please take a moment to read about YAI here (perhaps you spotted them on CBS's The Early Show yesterday?), and, if you are so inclined, to make a donation to help YAI build brighter futures for people with disabilities and their families. Thank you!

(Check out those awesome fine motor skills- way to go, Baby S!)

MyMomShops Sponsor: Smarty Pants

Our newest sponsor, Smarty Pants is the brainchild of Massachusetts mom Jennifer Titton. When planning her 2003 wedding, crafty Jennifer hand-embroidered a hoodie sweatsuit with "Soon to Be Mrs. Ross Titton." Tons of people asked her where she bought it, and soon she was filling orders for friends and family (particularly for wedding party gifts)- and extending her business to include personalized, embroidered accessories and children's items. She now has a thriving business which has been featured on The Today Show and in In Style Weddings.

Here are some of my favorite items from Smarty Pants:

This spa-inspired cotton waffle-weave personalized toiletry bag ($42) makes a great gift:

I LOVE the preppy look of these classic totes; they are available in two sizes (medium $115, large $120) and with your choice of color trim (black, pink, navy blue, lime green or chocolate brown).

The hoody sweatsuit that started it all; monogram it with your initial, nickname, or just about anything you like (embroidery is available on the seat of the pants, too!) Prices start at $95:

How cute is this? The coordinating children's hoody sweatsuit; shown here in pale pink with chocolate brown embroidery (other colors available, too). In infant through youth 12 sizes.

Smarty Pants prides itself on personalized customer service, so you'll need to contact Jennifer by phone or e-mail to place your order; she will be sure to make sure your gift is exactly the way you want it! Prices vary depending on embroidery. Visit Smarty Pants.

2008 National Stationery Show: Part Three

More treats from the National Stationery Show:

Eco-friendly wooden cards from Night Owl Paper Goods. I'd seen these online before but not in person and I loved the weight and texture of the cards.

A simply gorgeous display by Pie Bird Press. Love the chocolate candies card.

If, like me, you are obsessed with kids' invitations, moving announcements, and the like, then you've certainly heard of Robyn Miller Design. I got to meet the Robyn Miller at this year's show- pretty cool! She is a NYC mom of two little ones, too. Here she's standing in front of a zoo party invite that I happened to use for R & S's party last year!

Robyn also showed me these great moving announcements (perfect for those making the big move to the 'burbs). They can be customized to show just about any locations in the US (or even an international move, if you're lucky enough....)

I had stumbled onto Sweet Beets just a few weeks prior at Etsy.com and was so happy to see this Canadian letterpress shop turn up at the show. I adore these simple number cards as an alternative to Hallmark-type kids' birthday cards.

There are several other booths I visited (but did not photograph) that I will tell you about soon...plus several of the designers I met offered us fab giveaways that I will keep as a surprise for now...stay tuned!

Terrific Twosome

There's mommy jewelry, and then there's MOMMY JEWELRY. I am thrilled beyond words with my new "Karen" bracelet from Two Sisters Jewelry Boutique. I have two other mommy bracelets that are rather dainty, simple, and, well, a little boring. My new bracelet from Two Sisters is an eye-catcher (it is my first piece of mommy jewelry that people constantly ask me about). It is chunkier than other bracelets of this style- which I wasn't sure I'd like, but it turns out I adore it. It has real "weight" and some serious bling (chocolate Swarovski pearls, Swarovski crystals and sterling silver balls, plus a large toggle clasp). And, of course, the best part- both of my kids' names. It works for daytime or for evening (well, I assume, I don't exactly attend many black-tie events these days...) It is a great gift for a mom or a grandma. $120 at Two Sisters Jewelry Boutique.

MyMomShops Giveaway: Fill Me Up Vases

THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED.

I am a big fan of unique vases (remember this one?) and was very intrigued to get an e-mail introducing me to Jillable Fill-Me-Up Vases. Want a vase that's attractive? Check. Want a vase that doesn't cost a fortune? Check. Want a vase that's eco-friendly (unlike all those glass monstrosities sitting in your cabinets?) Triple check.

The Fill-Me-Up Vase is probably the first fold-up vase you have ever seen. It's a great idea- a plastic vase that folds flat and travels easily (include it as part of the gift when you give flowers- it will be a conversation piece and the gift recipient will be glad they don't have to hunt down their own vase).

The vases can be used again and again- just fill them up with water, and when you're done, rinse them out and wait for your next weekly bouquet of roses from your hubby (yeah, right).

Pretty clever, ain't it? And the price can't be beat- just $8 per vase at Jillable.

Update: Jillable.com is offering "buy one, get one free" to anyone who purchases a vase. Just e-mail them and mention which design you'd like for your 2nd vase. This is a great deal!

Welcome to WEtv.com

You've probably heard of WEtv.com (ya know, "Women's Entertainment"...the network where you can watch shows like Platinum Weddings that make your husband wince). Well, they just relaunched their website to include new features like blogs, message boards, and videos. On the new site you can read, among other things, this article Bridal Party Gifts With Style written by yours truly (remember, in my pre-mommy life I co-wrote the site BridesmaidAid.com). Even if you're not planning your own nuptials (and I gather most of my readers have passed that stage!) the article has some great gifts in all price ranges that work for any woman or man. Get an early start on some Father's Day ideas! Visit WEtv.com.

Beach Bound

I am headed to the beach for the weekend (hooray!) and, since I won't have Internet access, you won't be hearing from me again until Tuesday. To cheer us all up when we have to return to the "real world" that day, there will be a great giveaway with 25 winners, so if you keep saying "I never win your contests", well, Tuesday may be your lucky day. So check back then. And have a great, happy, healthy, safe weekend!

p.s. If you're stuck in town and are craving more to read, check out our archives, like my favorite gifts, personalized gifts, or gifts under $25.

Itzy Bitzy Baby

Everyone knows that with baby clothes, the smaller they are the cuter they look. Nothing like a teeny tiny onesie to make you go "ahhhhh." Zutano has launched Itzy Bitzy, their sweet line of layette items for newborns up to 8 pounds (though both of my 37-weekers ALREADY weighed 8 pounds and quickly filled out their clothes, I know many moms who have found that regular newborn clothes are swimming on their 6 or 7-pound bundles of joy). Itzy Bitzy styles include a kimono top, long or short-sleeve wrap bodysuits, gowns with mitten cuffs, and much more. Everything is super soft and comfy, designed with easy dressing in mind (i.e. gentle snaps, overlapping necklines). The patterns are very sweet and are designed for easy mixing and matching. Prices are reasonable; a gown costs $19.95 and a bodysuit costs $17.95. Check out Zutano's Itzy Bitzy line at Comfy Kid.

My Bag by Kushies Winner

Congratulations to Anne S., who wrote, "I melt for the pink one and we are always travelling for the weekends, so this would be perfect." Anne, please e-mail me your name and address to claim your prize.

Everyone else, look forward to a giveaway next week with TWENTY-FIVE winners- yes, you read correctly! Want to be notified via e-mail when the giveaway takes place? E-mail me with "newsletter" in the subject line.

Fashionable Flyer

I got an e-mail about a very cool-looking new online boutique, Double Dutch Kids, which features trendy and eco-conscious children's clothing. Lots of nifty brands that I've seen before at the Bubble New York show, like Egg & Avacado, Winter Water Factory, and Ferd. I love this summery, felt-appliqued Airplane Seersucker Dress by designer Kimberly Murray. I wish they had this in bigger sizes for my little girl! $58 in sizes 12-18mos, 2T, and 4T at Double Dutch Kids.

2008 National Stationery Show: Part Two

I mentioned in my first post about the 2008 National Stationery Show that "ironic greetings" seem to be all the rage (pun intended) now. I first noticed these kinds of cards last year on Etsy.com, particularly "Hate Mail" by Carol Lee Designs. This genre is pretty darn funny, though I'm not sure who has the nerve to actually mail these types of cards. Anyway, Par Amour Designs was just one of the vendors at this year's show that did a great job with this category. Some of the cards are perhaps too blunt to send:

Whie others are refreshingly honest, like this card and tote bag:

Curious? See more at Par Amour Designs. Another great vendor in this genre is Old Tom Foolery, though unfortunately I didn't get any photos of that booth and their website is not quite ready; check back though.

Lots more from the 2008 National Stationery Show...coming soon.

As Seen on TV

I gather that more than a few of you are also avid Jon & Kate Plus Eight fans (actually, my 4 1/2 year old daughter now LOVES this show, too!) So I was glad to find these adorable personalized tees from Em Tanner Designs; loyal J&K+8 viewers will recognize some of these styles from the show:

Big Sis/Big Bro tees ($29.95):

Slim Fit Funky Initial Tees ($33.95):

Personalized Aluminum Lunchbox ($35.95):

Personalized Melamine Dinner Plate. Just like the Gosselin Eight's ($23.95):

MyMomShops Giveaway: My Bag by Kushies

This contest is now closed.

For the past few years I've used a giant zip-top LL Bean tote bag to pack my kids' stuff for overnight or weekend trips. The only problem (besides ours being pink with R's monogram, not her little brother's first choice to share...) is that there are no inside compartments, so I have to stuff snacks, toiletries, socks, accessories, and dirty/clean clothes into...you guessed it, Ziploc bags.

So I was thrilled to receive this brand new all-in-one "My Bag" overnight/daycare/travel bag from Canadian retailer Kushies. It has a bunch of compartments and features including insulated snack and medicine boxes, clean and dirty clothes bags, laundry bag, and even a comfy striped fleece pillow and blanket for on-the-go napping. The smaller bags each have space for the child's name so his/her belongings don't get lost. There's also a handy hook for hanging and two separate outside compartments which I use for shoes. The size is just right for my two kids to spend a night or two away (might be tougher for a longer trip or if you are packing very bulky clothing). We got the blue and brown version with a cartoon dog on it; both kids love it, though I personally would love the pink and orange cupcake bag as a fun travel bag for myself!

The bag retails for $79 at Kushies Online.

What about Bob?

I recently received an e-mail from Bobby Fintor, the owner of a swell new kids' shop, Cotton Bobs, in NYC's funky East Village. Cotton Bobs is an eco-conscious boutique with a great selection of hip threads and accessories, including these NYC Metrocard and Subway tees, which I've seen in person and love, love, love. Perfect for native mini-New Yorkers like mine. Everything at Cotton Bobs is 20% off, too, now through May 31st. The tees above are now $21.40, reduced from $24.95. Check it out at Cotton Bobs.

2008 National Stationery Show Report: Part One

The 2008 National Stationery Show was, as I suspected, super amazing fantastic wonderful. I had barely three hours there and, honestly, I could've stayed for a week. Sadly I missed seeing some of my favorite finds from last year (Egg Press, In Good Company Designs, & Ecojot) but I met many new exhibitors and designers I did not yet know.

I also noticed several trends, including letterpress EVERYWHERE (even the designers had luscious, thick cardstock lettepress business cards!), eco-friendly, recycled, sustainable EVERYTHING (stationery, gift wrap, gift bags, etc.), and TONS of what I'll call "ironic greeting cards" (you know, the kind that says "Thank you very much" and underneath, in tiny print, "for nothing"). Made me chuckle. More on all of these trends soon.

For now, though, here is some of the spectacular-ness (assuming that you, like I, are a stationery/gift junkie), that I happened to photograph, starting in alphabetical order:

AMH Design. Contemporary needlepoint kits and stitchable journals (available as kits or pre-made). How gorgeous are these? Such a great personalized gift. I asked the owner which is more popular- the DIY kits or the pre-made- and she said the kits. Puts an un-crafty mom like me to shame!

Butch & Harold. Peel-and-stick artwork for your walls. Love the display- check out the faux fireplace.

Feterie. Feterie's tagline is "Modern Stationery & Bespoken Lovelies" so I knew I needed to check them out. Owner/designer Cathe Huynh-Sison is one of the many talented & friendly people I met at the show this year. I totally dig her philosophy- The demand for the feel of paper — and, most importantly, beautiful, decadent designer paper goods — are still very true in today's modern world. Hear, hear!

Kichi Inc. Yet more beautiful gift-wrap. I think I have an obsession.

Last (for now, there's plenty more to come) is Linda & Harriet. This Brooklyn-based shop debuted at last year's show and has had a very successful year. I also am posting this for my mom since two of her best friends are named Linda & Harriet. Natch.

Stopping for now; check soon for more treats from this year's National Stationery Show. And if you're, like me, a paper junkie and New Yorker, run over to the Javits Center to see it all yourself!

Sleeping Sibs

I just bought these new organic cotton long johns for my kids since 1) they are growing like weeds and all their PJs are a foot too short 2) I've always wanted to try Hanna Andersson's organic long johns and 3) they were on sale. I also liked that my kids could match in this unisex blue/green color combo (which match their eyes, to boot). The PJs arrived and they look great though R. announced, "I don't want those. I want horse pajamas instead." Oh well. Anyway, I am also glad that Hanna Andersson now gives US equivalents on their sometimes confusing European sizing. My very tall 21-month-old and almost-5-year-old wear size 90 (US size 4) and 120 (US size 6/7) Hannas, respectively, and the PJs look about right, with room to grow. They're on sale for $28 per pair (reduced from $38) at Hanna Andersson.

Hanging Up Now

, I like my kids' personalized wooden stepstools (they each received several as baby gifts), but a Personalized Wall Rack like this one from GoToBaby.com might have been even more useful. You can personalize it with a name up to 9 letters, or order one with a themed medallion of a Bus, Train, Sport, Fire Engine, Puppy, Cat, Heart, Dinosaur or Teddy Bear. The 3-knobbed maple wall rack measures 6" x 14" with 2" letters and costs $39.95. Check out this and other personalized kids' gifts at GoToBaby.com.

Ahoy, Mateys

In recent seasons, I've found the baby clothing at Pottery Barn Kids to be a little boring, but they've redeemed themselves with some bright summer styles. My favorite look is this Nautical Boat Print Collection. The girls' dress ($48) and boys' shirt ($28) and canvas pants ($32) are all available in sizes up to 18-24 months. The boys' shirt can be monogrammed for an additional charge- a cute touch. Now through May 22nd, shipping is free, too! Check out all the summer baby clothing (I like the safari collection, too) at Pottery Barn Kids.

Paper Chase

Today I am headed to one of my favorite events, the annual National Stationery Show here in New York. Even though I'm half asleep from my 5am wakeup with Baby S., I'm excited to pound the pavement at the Javits Center (there are miles and miles, literally, of exhibitors). The National Stationery Show is a feast for the eyes, highlighting everything from letterpress cards to mod gift wrap to eco-friendly desk accessories. I'll be seeing some of my old favorites, including Galison/Mudpuppy, EggPress, Jack & Lulu, and 3 Designing Women, plus discovering this year's fab new designers. I'm bringing my camera and will be posting reports this week, so stay tuned!

UPDATE: To borrow a phrase from my four-year-old, it was "super cool"! Really. Met great people, saw gorgeous products. Took lots of pix. And arranged for some pretty awesome giveaways. Will share soon!

Ask MyMomShops: Twin Gifts

Several readers have asked me about baby gifts for twins, and then my mom asked for a similar recommendation for a friend's newborn grandson and granddaughter.

I have just a slight hesitation posting these adorable twin tees from Baby's Language since my mom tried to order from this site last month and found it difficult to use (she eventually gave up), but I have to say these are some of the cutest twin designs I've seen in a long time. Take a look:

TW-IN Twin Sets ($36):

Copy & Paste Twin Set ($36):

We Connect Twin Set ($36):

And, for the especially fruitful among us:

Ready Set Go Triplet Lap Tee Set ($54):

Check out Baby's Language, and if you place an order let me know how it goes.

Ultimately, I directed my mom to this Perfect Pair Twin Organic Gift Set ($70) by Kee-ka, and it was a hit.

Got great ideas for twin gifts? Post them in the comments. And if you have a shopping question for me, drop me an e-mail and I just may post your answer here!

Goin on a Picnic

With wedding season approaching, I think this Backpack Picnic Set by designer French Bull is a smart choice for a wedding gift. The chic orange and brown backpack contains service for 4, including mod-patterned cups, cutlery, and plates, plus extras like a corkscrew (add your own bottle of wine for an extra thoughtful touch!), napkins, and cutting board. All the newlyweds need to do is add food and drink and they're good to go. $124 at Wishing Fish.

MyMomShops Sponsor: Culpeper General

Being a real sentimentalist when it comes to my kids, I am giddy about the products sold by our sponsor Culpeper General, an Etsy.com storefront started by Shannon Carter, who is also a mom and former Martha Stewart editor (she also owns Growth Sprouts). At her new Etsy shop, Shannon still sells her famousGrow Baby Grow set of snapsuits (perfect for month-by-month picture-taking of your infants). They cost $40 for a set of 6, and are sized appropriately for the baby's age:

I also love her birth announcement onesies ($24):

AND she has added adorable brand-items. Like the other baby clothing in this shop, these make great, affordable baby gifts or birthday gifts. Here's a peek:

"Awesome" heart onesie ($15):

I'm One or I'm Two Tees ($18):

Ballerina personalized little girls' shirt ($18):

Little Boy Camo

I am having more fun than I ever expected dressing and accessorizing my toddler son; these Conner camouflage sneakers by Pediped are a new addition to his wardrobe. They are easy to put on his chubby feet (not true of many other brands) and apparently he finds them quite comfy since he doesn't screech and try to pull them off. I love the camo pattern; I wish it came in girls' colors too for my daughter. $39 at Pediped.

Enjoy free shipping on your order from Pediped.com with code "hapr08".

MyMomShops Giveaway: Anamalz at Petit Baby

One of my favorite sites for European and international baby toys, Petit Baby, is offering one of our readers their choice of 4 "Anamalz". Designed in Australia, these award-winning toys are made from organic maple wood and textile products. Each has its own unique wood grains, making each piece one-of-a-kind. They can move, look left and right, up and down, and stand in different poses. For a (toy) animal-loving child like my four-year-old daughter, these would be a great start to hours of creative play. And aren't they just so cute?

The winner will take their pick of 4 Anamalz (note the giraffe and lion are temporarily out of stock). My favorites are (pictured above, top to bottom) the Cow, Elephant, Gorilla, and Hippo. Each animal is less than 6" tall, and costs either $5.99 or $6.99 at Petit Baby.

Win it! 1 MyMomShops reader will win 4 Anamalz of choice from Petit Baby (up to $28 value). Here are the contest rules:

1) To enter, please comment on THIS post (click on "comments" below), indicating which 4 Anamalz you'd choose.
2) Post your comment by 11:59pm tomorrow, Thursday, May 15th. One entry per person, please. US addresses only.
3) One winner will be chosen at random and announced on Friday morning, May 16th.
4) NOTE: If you wish to be contacted by e-mail if you win, please include your e-mail address in your comment. Otherwise you must check back on Friday to see if you won. Unclaimed prizes are forfeited after 72 hours.

Good luck!

Brother/Sister Beach Babes

I always have an eye out for coordating sister/brother clothing; I wish these matching Sun Smarties Terry Cover-ups from Leaps & Bounds went up to sizes beyond 4T so I could order them for both my kids! I've ordered beach coverups from Leaps & Bounds before and have been very pleased with the quality; they withstand a full summer of wear & tear quite well. They are UPF 50+ and available in pink or blue in sizes 12mos through 4T; $19.95 without personalization, $24.95 with personalization (up to 10 characters) at Leaps & Bounds.

M by Staples

Have you seen this clever new ad campaign for M by Staples? Yes, it's an offshoot of that Staples. But these office accessories (including journals, files, stationery and more) are decidedly more stylish than what the chain usually offers. They are certainly are more tempting than printer cartridges and office chairs. The M by Staples line is not for sale online, but is available at select Staples locations. If you see it in-store, let me know what you think.

Welcome to our newest sponsor, Wild Dill. This little boutique offers superb organic, natural, and fair trade items (including clothing, toys, bedding and gifts)for babies and kids. You won't find any screaming electronic toys here- just the best of the natural, organic, fair trade items made in the USA or Europe. Wild Dill epitomizes what I love about shopping online for kids these days- a carefully-chosen selection of high-quality/eco-friendly items paired with a site that is attractive and user-friendly.

Mother's Day Wrap Up

I had a fantastic Mother's Day with my kids and family, including my dad who just returned from a business trip in Europe. Ever the doting grandpa, his arms were filled with gifts for the kids- and some Mother's Day treats for me.

He bought my sister and me each a beautiful Notebook/Journal by European stationer Bookbinder Designs:

And, much to R. and S's amusement, this silly plush "Switzerland" cow by Splash Arts. It yodels- click on the "Jodel Plüschkuhthe" cow to hear a sample!

And also this lovely, educational Geometric Peg Board by Plan Toys (available stateside at KangarooBoo for $14.90)

I also received some beautiful cards, surprise gifts, phone calls & e-mails from friends (you know who you are), which meant the world to me this year. Thank you.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy (Almost) Mother's Day! This is my first blog post from my fab new Apple iMac computer, my long-awaited Mother's Day gift to myself. My best gift by far, though, was a shower of hugs & kisses from my kids this morning, a new word from Baby S. ("bread" while eating toast!), and a homemade "I Love You" card from R. I wish you all a wonderful day tomorrow to celebrate yourselves and your families! See you on Monday.

Domino Effect

My sister got me a gift subscription to Domino magazine for Mother's Day- something I've wanted for a long time! Now I can enjoy reading it at home instead of hurriedly paging through it on the supermarket line. I love all of their fresh ideas for stylish living and decor. A one-year (10 issues) gift subscription costs just $10 and includes a free tote bag at Domino.

Just a Sliver...

What a brilliant idea! I spotted this S-XL Cake Mold by designer Konstantin Slawinski in a magazine recently (I think was the NY Times Design magazine...) For all the times your guests (of any age) chime in "just a sliver" or "I want a BIG piece!" this is the cake pan for you. Mother's Day Giveaway #5: Two Sisters Jewelry Boutique

ALL MOTHER'S DAY GIVEAWAY CONTESTS ARE NOW CLOSED.

Two Sisters Jewelry Boutique was launched by, yes, two sisters (twin sisters, in fact) whose families live near each other in Phoenix, Arizona. The sisters/moms brought their two backgrounds together (one sister was busy designing hand-made jewelry for friends and family, the other had a business background) to create and sell chic, classy jewelry at competitive prices. Their designs are just my taste- stylish and eye-catching, but nothing too over-the-top (i.e. things I can still wear when I'm in "mom" mode). In fact, I will be posting about several more of their items soon, but today I want to show you what they have donated to our Mother's Day Giveaway Week. It's their most popular item- this delicate Sterling Eternity Necklace ($35). It's made of thin sterling silver rope chain (your choice of 16" or 18" length), with a beautiful full eternity circle. Perfect for just about every occasion and with every outfit. Visit Two Sisters Jewelry Boutique.

Mother's Day Giveaway #4: Aster & Sage Accessories

ALL MOTHER'S DAY GIVEAWAY CONTESTS ARE NOW CLOSED.

One of our favorite shops, Arte Bebe, is offering your choice of two items by new designer Aster & Sage, a small company that takes recycled materials (ranging from fabric scraps to soda bottles) and creates funky, modern, practical accessories for women and home. Perfect gifts for yourself (or another mom you know). I should know, because I saw their gorgeous display at the New York International Gift Fair.

Arte Bebe is offering the winner of this giveaway her choice of these two items:

Aster & Sage's Accessory Bag ($30). This all-purpose bag features a snap-on strap so you can easily attach it to your wrist, bag, or stroller. The styling is superb with vivid contrasting colors and textures, as well as a pretty cotton floral interior lining. Measuring 6.5" x 5.5", it's just the right size for your essentials- wallet, keys & phone (I could use something like this to bring to the gym!)

Or, choose this Aster & Sage I-pod/Cell Phone Holder ($28) Same concept, this time designed for the device you can't live without (take your pick- for me it's my I-pod.) The sides are padded for extra protection, and the lining is cotton corduroy. Measures 3.25" x 5".

Check out all of Arte Bebe's other "grown-up" products (including items by designers French Bull, Pop Ink, and Avalisa) and enjoy a 15% discount on any item in this category using code "MOMSDAY".

Grandma's Favorite Gift

While many of the lovely Mother's Day gifts and photo gifts that I have already posted about are suitable for Grandmas, too, sometimes simple is best. My own mother has enjoyed the same gift from my kids and me every year for the past 4 years- this basic Shutterfly snapbook filled with her favorite recent photos of R & S. The spiral-bound mini-album is lightweight and compact, and fits easily into her purse for easy bragging. And by saving them each year she has a visual record of the kids as they grow (you can have fun adding captions and dates, too). Shown here is the cover of this year's book; I prefer this simple style but Shutterfly offers many other designs & fonts for your snapbook (also, you can choose between 4" x 6" size or 5" x 7" size). Cost of a basic, 20-page 4" x 6" book= $9.99. Smile on Grandma's face= priceless! Visit Shutterfly.com.

Mother's Day Giveaway #3: Sugarbooger by O.R.E.

ALL MOTHER'S DAY GIVEAWAY CONTESTS ARE NOW CLOSED.

Our next Mother's Day Giveaway is from Sugar Booger by O.R.E., a company whose stuff I LOVE LOVE LOVE and have purchased several times (like this diaper bag from their too-cute "Peek-a-Boo" line). I picked up their catalog at the New York International Gift Fair a few months ago and I had just about every page dog-eared. This company just has the greatest, stylish products for moms, kids, home, and even pets! For our giveaway they are offering a set of two items:

First up is this Twiggy Ultimate Weekender Bag ($49.95 at Wrapables.com). I love the colors and allover floral print on this perfect-for-mom bag. It's just the right size for an overnight or weekend trip (26"x15"x11.5") and it's made of machine-washable cotton, too.

Then, these funny Dirty/Clean Organizer Pouches ($14.95 for set of 2 at BunnyBuryBaby.com) are equally handy for mom or baby (how many times have I tossed my family's dirty clothes into ziploc bags...) These 11" x 14" cotton organizer pouches have a clear mesh back for ventilation and easy visibility. A perfect accessory for the Twiggy Weekender Bag!

If you have an extra moment...

In the spirit of Mother's Day, I invite you to visit my personal page for the YAI Central Park Challenge, a fundraising walk in which my children are I are participating on Saturday, May 31st. Not only have both my children benefitted from Early Intervention therapiest provided by YAI for the past four years, but I have also served as a board member of a YAI division since 2003. Please take a moment to read about YAI here, and, if you are so inclined, to make a donation to help YAI build brighter futures for people with disabilities and their families. Thank you!

(Photo of Baby S. and his beloved physical therapist Alyssa Dominianni. She began working with him when he was 7 months old and could not roll over, sit, reach for toys, or hold his head up during tummy time. Now, at 21 months, he is walking, climbing, and trying to jump!)

MyMomShops Sponsor: VeryMeri

Our new sponsor, verymeri, is the brainchild of Meri Zeiff, a first grade teacher from Hollywood, CA. verymeri features shirts by kids and for kids; each tee has been designed by a child who has responded to the question, “If you could have anything you want written on a shirt, what would it say?” Each season verymeri holds an online contest where kids can submit (and vote) for favorite slogans. Current winners include "Woof!" and "Peace". Most tees start around $21 and various styles (short sleeve, long sleeve, tanks, etc.) and sizes are avaiable. Best of all, 3% of sales go to the winning child designer and Free Arts For Abused Children, a non-profit organization that provides art services to at-risk children. Read more about verymeri at the company blog.

Etsy Mother's Day

I hadn't looked around at Etsy.com in awhile, so today I browsed for Mother's Day gift ideas, especially items under $50 (given money seems tight for everyone these days). Take a look:

I Love You tiny text ceramic bowl ($16 each):

Handbound Golden Honey Leather Journal ($37):

Hand Stamped Mommy/Grandma Name Bracelet ($45):

Cherry Blossom Personalized Notecards ($11.95). I've given these as a gift- they are lovely!

Psst! Want tons of other great gift ideas for Moms/Grandmas? Click on the "just for mom" label which will take you to over 100 previous MyMomShops posts about clothing, jewelry, personalized gifts, photo gifts, and more that are perfect for Mother's Day.

The Future is not in Plastic

OK, I have joined the group of nervous moms who has started to phase out plastic sippy cups (boy, am I glad Baby S. finally gave up his bottle last month or I would've had to chuck those out, too!). I bit the bullet and bought two of these uber-expensive but supposedly much, much safer SIGG Kids Bottles. Besides being tough-as-nails, spill-proof, and leak-proof, SIGG bottles have been tested to prove 0% leaching (read what that means here). The patterns are so darn cute, so at least you'll smile when you're forking over $15.95 for one of these goodies. Check out all the options at ReusableBags.com.

Tiny Prints Giveaway Winner

Congratulations to "Gunzie", who wrote, "I love this website, my little girl will be 1 in 6 weeks and therefore I love the pink confetti photo birthday invitations. Thanks for the giveaway!" Please e-mail me your name and address to claim your prize.

Everyone else, get ready for an entire Mother's Day Giveaway Week here at MyMomShops starting next Monday, May 5th. Want a reminder to check back? E-mail me with "newsletter" in the subject line.
