I think these new Baseball Place Mats in the latest Pottery Barn Kids catalog are pretty cute. They are sold as a set of 4 and include the name of every position (helpful for a sports-ignorant mom like myself). If you want to take this theme further, check out PBK's entire baseball party collection. The placemats are $19/set at Pottery Barn Kids.

Kalencom Diaper Bags
Kalencom, a leading diaper bag designer, has recently introduced a new version of its popular laminated buckle bag ($60). In addition to being both practical and stylish and having the usual things you need (like lots of pockets), it has the added bonus of being made with phthalate-free materials (in English: it's environmentally friendly and it's OK if Junior gnaws on it). It comes in dozens of terrific colors and patterns (my favorites are disco dots and multi-stripes). Visit Kalencom.com.
p.s. Why am I up at 1:20 A.M.? Because I am Ferberizing Baby S. for what seems like the umpteenth time. Aaargh. Going to surf online some more now (with earplugs). And use Google to make sure I spelled "phthalates" correctly.

Big Big Bag
Have you noticed that once you have kids and need to pack for a quick trip with them- even just an overnight- that you have more small pieces of baggage than you know what to do with? It would help to have a giant bag to carry the *other* small bags and things that don't fit anywhere else. This Giant Everything Tote from Garnet Hill looks like it would do the trick. Measuring 19"h x 15 3/4"w x 17 1/2"d, the Giant Everything Tote has an enormous inner chamber, large Velcro outer pocket, and leather handles. It's made of easy-care padded nylon. You can monogram it, too. $58 at Garnet Hill.

Ta-Da(Do)
I'm a big fan of toys that fold up or stack up neatly, and take up little room in our Manhattan apartment. Of course, if the toy is actually a great toy, well, that's even better. These new Dado Cubes at Fat Brain Toys fit the bill (and my apartment) nicely. A fresh twist on classic building blocks, Dado Cubes feature slits on each cube which kids can interlock to create an unlimited number of three-dimensional structures. R. and S. are both enjoying them quite a bit (and she helpfully removes the smallest ones from his chubby hands). They look nice, too...very modernist and colorful. At just $24.95, this would be a great birthday gift for kids of just about any age. Visit Fat Brain Toys.

MyMomShops Sponsor: BugsT Shirts

Introducing our latest sponsor, BugsT Shirts, whom I discovered when I went to Children's Day at the New York Junior League a few weeks ago. In the midst of lots of prim & pretty baby clothes, these funky, squirmy, squiggly T-shirts stood out immediately. If your kid loves little creatures, these shirts are made for him or her.
Created by Claudia and Alexander Ngai from Brooklyn, New York (the pair designed products for museum gift shops & boutiques for more than 15 years), BugsT shirts make dressing fun for kids by displaying one small plastic creature- such as a lizard, dinosaur, and turtle- beneath a clear vinyl window at the center of the shirt. When I first saw these shirts, I thought, "What a great gift for a little boy," but then I realized girls like my daughter (who claims "I love slimy creepy things, Mom") would enjoy them just as much. If your princess prefers more delicate creatures, designs such as ladybugs are available, too. Either way, your little one will love to show off his/her newest friend on his/her shirt.
The shirts (which are available as Ts or baseball jerseys) are made of 100% preshrunk cotton and are machine washable and dryable. Sizes run from Toddler 2 to kids' 16, and adult T's are available, too. Prices start at $25 for a toddler shirt. Visit BugsT Shirts.

Happy Hour
I find these Five O'Clock Beverage napkins ($4.95 for pack of 20) to be verrry funny. Especially today after I have spent much of the weekend squished between two crying children in the back of our car, dispensing Goldfish crackers and bottles as needed. I could use a nice summer cocktail right about now. These napkins pretty much speak for themselves. Use them to get a giggle at your next soiree (or playgroup...no judgements). Visit PlatesAndNapkins.com for this and other clever designs.

Kit & Lili
Sometimes it's fun just to browse. I love the fresh, modern look of Kit & Lili's kids clothing available at BlackWagon.com. This Baby Onesie costs $38 and the Big Circle Skirt for girls costs $56. I don't usually spend that much on my kids' clothes, but it sure is fun to look. Love the bold patterns and colors. Take a look around at BlackWagon.com.

Designer Dinnerware
I think even R. is starting to tire of her Dora dinnerplates (though, sadly, not of her endless diet of grilled cheese "samwiches"). So I have been browsing around for some new kids' dinnerware. I'll probably go with unbreakable melamine, but if I were to splurge (and R. never tipped over her plate), I'd consider this pretty Pippin Park 3-Piece Feeding Set by Kate Spade (yes, that Kate Spade now makes kids' dinnerware, too). For $75 you get this 3-piece of set of bone china, which includes a dishwasher safe, lead-free plate, bowl and cup. I'm not sure how many kids are ready to eat off of bone china, but if yours is (or you need to give a baby gift to a baby "who has everything"), check out this set or the boys' version at KateSpade.com.

Stationery Show, Part Deux
I know, I've posted an awful lot about the stationery show this week. Just can't help myself. So please indulge me one last time with some other finds:
1) I love the bold, bright cards by Jen Lee Designs. Here is the front and inside of one of her birth announcements:

2) Letterpress designs were all the rage at the show. I personally love letterpress and its yummy texture, like this stationery by Eggpress:
3) I'm not in the market for "save the date" cards anymore, but if I were a bride I would consider these vivid reminders by Dear Dahlia:
4) From designer Hello Lucky!, check out this Hostess with the Most Soiree Party Set which includes 8 flat letterpress printed invitations, 8 matching coasters, and 8 buffet/table cards.
5) Last but not least, how sweet are these "It's a Chick" girls' birth announcements from BumbleInk.com:
Ahhh...till next year's Stationery Show.

Boys Club
I just stumbled on a great online boutique for stylish infant and little boy's clothing. Ochanga.com sells boys' clothes that are high-quality and just the right amount of hip, without being over-the-top (or messy-looking, a pet peeve of mine with some boys' clothing).
I love this Guy Fly blue cotton shirt ($45, sizes 18 months-5T) with its shiny black buttons, and also this Pretty Boy Orange Shirt ($45, sizes 18months-5T). Just funky enough. Browse around for your little guy at Ochanga.com.

Beautiful Boden

The appliqued clothing at Boden Kids has really grown on me. In their spring/summer catalog, I'm admiring this retro-style Fun Applique Dress ($38) which is available in the Aqua/Pear colors shown here (love this combo), or Raspberry/Flower. Sizes run from 6-12 months through 11-12 years. Check out all the girls' summer dresses at Boden.

Shake, Rattle & Roll
I've posted before about Heirloom Wooden Toys, a MyMomShops affiliate that sells wonderful high-quality wooden toys for kids of all ages (it's where I bought the deluxe activity cube that keeps both my infant and preschooler occupied for hours). In the past few weeks, Baby S. has become somewhat obsessed with this Classic Mini Spin Wooden Rattle ($7.95) which- with its lovely simple hardwood design- is a cut above the plethora of plastic toys I buy him at the drugstore. It has child safe and chew safe finishes (and boy does Baby S. take advantage of that- he is teething and though I wouldn't have guessed this was a good teething toy, turns out it is). The rattle measures 5 ¾” long and arrives in a gift box. Check out this (go to the site and search "rattle" and you'll find it) and other goodies at Heirloom Wooden Toys.

Photo Couture
Couture Invito is a site I have enjoyed browsing recently for great photo gifts and cute stationery, too. They have some nice options for Father's Day like this Silver Photo Paper Weight. It is silver-plated, measures 1.75" x 1.75" x .75", and costs $45 (for an additional $15, make it extra special for Dad with an engraving). Browse around for other gifts you'll love (I promise) at CoutureInvito.com.

There's Your Phone
At first I thought these Bean Bag Cell Phone Chairs from Spoon Sisters were just funny, but the more I look at them, I think they are actually quite helpful. Lots of times I can not remember where my cellphone is. If I knew it were resting comfortably in its groovy seat, it would be easier to spot, wouldn't it? At $9.75, this is a clever gift for that forgetful someone...a spouse? Teenager? Office mate? You decide. It would work well for iPods and Blackberrys too. It is 5 1/2"w x 5 1/2"h and comes in Neon Green, Turquoise, Fuschia, Charcoal, Orange or White nylon with foam pellet filling. Check out this and other fun (and funny) gifts at SpoonSisters.com.

MyMomShops Sponsor: In Good Company Designs

Meet our latest sponsor, In Good Company Designs. Fresh from their debut at the National Stationery Show, In Good Company Designs is poised to hit the hip-and-trendy stationery market big time. The business was started by two Connecticut-based entrepreneurs, friends and mothers- Laura Mitzelfelt and Nicole Lacey. In Good Company Designs reflects what is important to these women- good friends, good times, good living, and good news. Laura and Nicole's custom designed papers include invitations, announcements, holiday cards, and gift labels with fun, fresh, contemporary designs.
Take a look at two items I love from their site. On the left is one of their handy return address seals. Printed in sheets of 20, these are perfect to use for summertime correspondence (and lucky you if you really do have a place in Nantucket). The other is one of their simple but stylish vertical party invitations, like this one which is perfect for a summer boy (or grown-up). Mouse over the invitation to see the design on the back, too. It's little touches like these (and the high-quality paper) that make In Good Company Designs stand out. And when you find a design you like the best, most likely you can order coordinating thank-you notes, labels, what have you...
By the way, Laura and Nicole gave out beautifully wrapped little gumball candies to all who visited their booth at the National Stationery Show. Clearly, these women know what makes life a little sweeter.
Note: Their website is not yet set up for e-commerce. Browse the site to see what you like, and then click here to find their retailers.

Little Me, Little Boy
Little Me has always made cute, comfy, durable outfits for little boys (and girls)...though they have been tough to find online. With their new retail site which launched a few months ago, it's much easier. I like their no-fuss, age-appropriate clothes- one of their taglines right now is "I don't want to dress like I'm in a band. 'Cause I'm in a crib." I'm admiring this tan pant set (on sale for $24.99, reduced from $34, sizes 3-18 months). The layered tee has a ribbed collar and colorful orange engineer stripes across the chest. The roomy denim pants have elastic waist, faux fly and cargo pockets. 100% cotton. Check out all the little boys' playwear at LittleMe.com.

Poof!
Most of R's dress-up clothes are practically falling apart, but she still insists on wearing them. I was happy to receive the purple "SparklePoof" ($49) pictured here from PrissyProofs.com, a delightful company that has been making upscale, hip, and high-quality dress-up clothes for little girls for the past 7 years. It is by far the nicest (and most durable) of all her tutus to-date (and R. loves the matching "damsel" headpiece, too). Each "poof" is beautifully handcrafted with yards and yards of tulle (which is more than I can say for her flimsy dress-up set from Toys' R Us...) These are dress-up clothes that your little princess could actually wear outside of the house if she insists. Sizes are available from babies on up, and there are "spooky" poofs and seasonal poofs available, too. Browse around at PrissyPoofs.com.
MyMomShops readers receive a generous 20% discount at PrissyProofs.com. Just enter the code "MMS001" at checkout.

Kid in a Candy Store

I promised I would report back on the National Stationery Show that I attended at the Javits Center yesterday. I had a wonderful time. Plus I got to meet our newest sponsor, In Good Company Designs, in person. You will loooove their goods. Clean designs, bright colors, fun imagery. I won't tell you any more right now, but check back for a full post and pictures later this week.
Not to sound like a naive out-of-towner, but I had never attended a show at the Javits Center before and I was impressed (even for a New Yorker). Sure, you had to sift a bit through the 14,000 vendors....but if you persevered you were richly rewarded with some real gems. I've shown images of just 2 new designers I "discovered." The images here are from Deluce Design (lovely letterpress designs on thick cardstock) and Kate and Birdie (simple and adorable greeting cards and stationery).
Some other designers I liked were so brand-new that their websites are not quite ready for business yet, but you can still browse and oooh and ahhh...So take a look at these 4 sites which are also (in my opinion) winners:
Design Dairy
Delphine Press
Ecojot
Jen Lee Design
Ahhh...that's all for now. But more to come!

Have to Have Haba
German toy manufacturer Haba is quickly becoming a favorite in my house. I mostly knew about their wooden toys (which I've posted about here before) but turns out they also make some lovely plush toys for infants, too. We just received some great items including this Dragon's Egg ($12.49) from Oompa.com. The dragon has a baby-friendly face and makes a sweet rustling noise as it hatches out of the "egg." A Velcro loop means it's easy to attach to a stroller or high-chair. The dragon and egg are both made of plush cotton/polyester velour. Though the toy is suitable for ages 6 months and up, both my 9-month-old son and almost-4-year-old daughter LOVE watching the dragon "hatch" again and again. Check out all the newest Haba toys at Oompa.com.

Paper Mecca
I am so excited to attend my first National Stationery Show at the Javits Center tomorrow. Yes, I will be one of 14,000 visitors seeking the best, newest, and most creative paper products ranging from stationery to party goods to gifts to home office accessories. There are over 1,400 exhibitors so I will be moving pretty quickly to see as much as I can during the time Grandma is babysitting Baby S. (thank you, Mom!). I am also going to try to drop by and meet MyMomShops's next sponsor- about whom I will post this week- InGoodCompanyDesigns.com, who is an exhibitor at this year's show. And, undoubtedly, I will discover some more great finds to share with you.
P.S. I'm back and the show was fantastic! Will post some of my favorite finds soon.

Felix the Cat
I love any decor item that reminds me of my bell-bottomed 1970's childhood. Like this retro Felix The Cat Clock available at our affiliate Perpetual Kid. Felix the Cat has been a staple in American homes since the 1930s, with its rolling eyes and wagging tail. When I was young, we had a yellow Felix clock in the kitchen of our tiny Brooklyn apartment. I still remember those eyes rolling back and forth! The Felix clock is battery-operated, manufactured in the USA, and costs $39.99 at Perpetual Kid (type "Felix" in the search box). A cute addition to a nursery or playroom!

Got You Pegged
The arrival of a new Growing Up Garnet Hill catalog always makes me happy. Recently they've had some terrific kids' decor items. Like this Movable Pegs Hanger. It's a sturdy, wall-mounted wooden coat rack with movable pegs that slide up and down to the perfect height for your kids to hang their hats, coats, sweaters, and more. I love the multi-colored pegs against the natural wood. It's made in Germany and measures 29" W x 8" H x ½" D. $48 at GarnetHill.com.

Mally Bibs
All moms search for the perfect baby bib. Consider this "Mally Bib" from the boutique site Chittypulga.com. It is easy to clean, comfortable, and oh-so-stylish. I love the designs, like the rocket design pictured here or the adorable rabbit bib for girls. Mally Bibs are handmade in Canada using 100% safe and soft leather. They are reversible, so you get 2 designs in 1 (one side has the cute picture, the other side has a functional pocket). Stains wipe off easily with a cloth or rinse after each use. Check out these and other adorably fashionable bibs at Chittypulga.com.

Bitty Braille
BittyBraille.com is a new site that features hip and unique tees for infants and toddlers. "So what?" you might think. But these tees are different in a wonderful way. Bitty Braille tees feature simple "kid-friendly" words like "laugh," "silly," or "darling," in Braille along with a hand embroidered translation (or you can spell out your child's name instead). Mom/owner Julie Dutt got the idea when she and her daughter- who is homeschooled- studied Helen Keller and were inspired by the look and idea of braille. Julie makes the tees by hand in her home studio and uses 100% cotton American Apparel garments. The braille type is either sparkly Swarovski crystals for girls' tees or metal studs for the boys. Sizes run from 3-6 months up to 4T, there are lots of color choices, and prices start at $24 (plus shipping is free this month). An extra special touch- Julie donates a portion of her sales to the American Foundation of the Blind to promote awareness and to support this important charity. For more information and to browse the tees, visit BittyBraille.com.

More Petite Treasures

I've posted before about the beautiful hand-knit toys by designer Anne-Claire Petit. Here are 2 more lovely toys she has created. This Music car isn't any typical toy car. Besides being crocheted, it also has a built-in music box. It measures 8"w x 1"d x 6"h and costs $48. Then, this Telephone will provide your child hours of (quiet) chit-chat (the receiver is still separately moveable like a real phone). It measures 5"w x 1"d x 4"h and costs $66. Check out these and other unusual wares at RoseAndRadish.com.
p.s. I'm posting this from an Internet cafe in my neighborhood- due to yesterday's thunderstorms, many of my neighbors and I are without phone, Internet, and TV service. Aaargh. Please, no one tell me what happens on The Office tonight! I'll try to post again tomorrow.

Alphabet Dreams

Do you know about this fantastic New York City design house called Duc Duc? They create modern children's furniture, bedding, and accessories using eco-friendly materials including natural fibers. Can't beat that. Their designs are superb- the epitome of modern kids' style. Like this great
alphabet crib bedding set in pink (blue is available too). The hand-drawn alphabet print in this set makes a striking yet child-friendly pattern. The set ($350) comes with a pink/white reversible bumper with contrast piping, pink skirt, and 2 soft 300-thread count cotton crib sheets. All pieces are formaldehyde-free. Browse all the crib sets (I think you'll love every single one) at DucDucNYC.com.

Indulge Me
I discovered some great new designers when I attended Children's Day at the New York Junior League recently (I never expected to set foot in the Junior League...but hey, it was fun!) I met one woman who has an online business selling party dresses for girls. It's called A Little Indulgence and it features beautiful dresses that are age-appropriate (no leopard prints and spaghetti straps here). My favorite item is the Chesterfield Dress in off-white and "creamsicle" colors (sizes 2-10, $175). It is made of 100% Thai silk (and a portion of sales is donated to help children in need in Thailand). The detail work on this dress is gorgeous- there is real silver threading in the skirt, though it doesn't show in the photo. Browse around for your little princess at A Little Indulgence.

Monkeying Around
Sock monkeys are back in vogue, and I think that this Monkey Faces Stroller Bag from Dandelion Baby is a great choice for a mom who wants a fun, colorful look. This messenger bag works well not only as a diaper bag but also as a stroller bag for a toddler or a school bag for a young child (or, say, for trips to Grandma's house?). It is handmade (love that) in the USA with easy-to-clean laminated Moda fabric and the inside is lined with real "sock monkey" fabric. It measures approximately 10"w by 12"h by 3.5"d. Check it out at DandelionBaby.com.

More Monograms for Baby

I stumbled on these hand-knit, monogrammed baby/toddler hats at Etsy.com. They're sweet, aren't they? You choose the color of the hat (and letter, of course) and size (3 months to 2 years). And they only cost $10 apiece...a real steal compared to what you'd pay on other sites for similar hats. Check them out at the Once Upon a Hook storefront on Etsy.com.

We All Scream
Summer must be close now that R. and I can hear the Good Humor truck music playing in our neighborhood daily. It's a great time to check out this Ice Scream Tee by hip designer Dirty Laundry, available at boutique site Skimbaco.com. No ordinary mass-produced tee here, each applique is hand-cut and layered onto the shirt by heat press. A boy's version in blue is available too. The shirt is made with the finest cotton. Of course, such luxury comes at a price. Each costs $42 (sizes 6 months to 6 years). But, don't worry, you've got a discount here. Enter code "MOMSHOPS" for 20% off of your first order. Good through 12/31/07. Yum!

MyMomShops Sponsor: Announcements Etc.
I'm proud to tell you about a new MyMomShops's sponsor, AnnouncementsEtc.com. I ordered Baby S's adorable Boatman Geller monkey thank you notes from them. I chose Announcements Etc. because of the generous discounts (20-25%) they offer on some of my favorite designers, including Stacy Claire Boyd, Sweet Pea Designs, Blue Mug Designs, and Boatman Geller. If there's something you'd like that you don't see on their website, just give them a call and they'll order it for you. Their customer service is wonderful.
I'm not in the market for baby announcements anymore, but they're still one of my favorite categories to browse on any stationery site. Check out these classy new designs from popular designer Stacy Claire Boyd. The "Pink Bubble Bath with Twine" announcement (100 for $176) is a flat white card with chocolate brown bands along both sides, decorated with pink and green dots and circles. A thin pink twine bow adds the finishing touch.
And this Silly Stripes Blue with Photo announcement (100 for $230) features a digital image of Baby that is incorporated onto the card during the printing process. Both announcements come in girl or boy versions and both have matching thank-you notes. Stacy Claire Boyd announcements can be pricey, but with Announcement Etc's standard 25% discount off this designer's products, you can afford to share your good news with lots more friends and family. And there's free return address printing on pre-ordered birth announcements.
So check out these and all the other pretty new designs at AnnouncementsEtc.com. And don't forget that extra postage when you mail them!

Swiming like Fishes
My addiction to coordinating brother/sister swimwear for R & S continues with these goldfish-design Girls' Swimsuit ($34, 2T-5T) and Baby Boys' Swim Shorts ($24, up to 24 months) from BabyStyle.com. Love the aqua/orange color combo and cute design. Check out this and other new summer arrivals at BabyStyle.com (and note there's free shipping for orders over $100 with code "EASYFREE").

You Like?
Well Dressed Home is quickly becoming one of my favorite home design sites. I just love their fun mirrors (such as the animal-themed Lilo Mirror Set I posted about before) and now I've spotted this See Something You Like? mirror as well. Cheeky, but still a positive message. I like that. The glass mirror is 14" square and costs $24 at Well Dressed Home.

Little Bow Peep
I just received this beautiful pink and brown monogrammed classic tuxedo barrette (shown at left) for R. from LittleBowPeepTails.com, a delightful online boutique that sells gorgeous handmade barrettes and hair streamers for little girls. The color combinations and patterns are among the best you'll find online.
If you're a Gymboree fan like I am, they even make "Made to Match" barrettes and streamers (shown at right) to match the current Gymboree lines. There are lots of other designs like Holiday Streamers,Special Occasion, and Design your Own. Most items can be monogrammed or personalized, making this a unique birthday gift (or sibling gift) for the little princess(es) in your life. Prices start at approximately $6.95 for either barrettes or streamers. Visit LittleBowPeepTails.com.

Ballet Lessons
Are ballet flats already on their way out? I hope not, because Keds.com has some really cute shoes including this collection by Eleanor Grosch. The ballet flats (a.k.a. "skimmers") cost just $39/pair and come in lots of fun designs (I like the Blue Owl Print). Whole and half sizes 6-11. Visit Keds.com.

Send in the Clown
My 3 1/2 year old daughter is still not interested in sitting down and playing a whole game of Candyland or Chutes & Ladders, but she adores this CooCoo The Rocking Clown Game available at CreativeKidStuff.com. It's a beautiful wooden classic balance game where kids (or adults- I love to play it with her) take turns placing the balls in the right places so that CooCoo won't tip over. It's easy, fun, and makes a great birthday gift for the 3-5 year old crowd. $20 at CreativeKidStuff.com.

Mom Shows Off
I'm one of those moms who thinks there's nothing wrong with (tastefully) displaying your kids' photos on some accessories. I mean, I don't like those "World's Best Mom" T-shirts they make at your local photo store, but something elegant like this newly revamped Photo Collage Tote from RedEnvelope.com. They've had a similar item for a few years- this Collage Tote now reduced to only $19.99 from $55 (that's a great tote, too...I should know, I've had one for 2 years and I get so many compliments!) Anyway, the one pictured above serves double-duty as a stylish bag for mom to use for herself, or to use as a diaper bag or toddler tote. It has three built-in plastic-covered snap pockets each of which displays a 3 1/2" round photo. A removable accent frame hangs from the handle and displays a round 2" photo. It is made of sturdy, easy-to-clean poly canvas and has leather shoulder straps and metal feet. It comes in blue or tan with chocolate colored trim or solid black. And, it's roomy, measuring 13" x 5 1/4" x 26" high with handles. Go ahead, you know you'd love to show off your kids' adorable faces even when you're out and about solo. $58 at Red Envelope.

Wrap it Up

I love finding stylish new kinds of gift wrap (though I'm no Martha Stewart when it comes to wrapping, I appreciate fun patters and textures). Through Stylehive.com I discovered Paper-Source.com, a creative paper site which has some terrific gift wrap products including gift bags, enclosure cards, ribbon, gift boxes, favor boxes, and, of course, rolls of giftwrap. Check out this cute Robot Wrap (not pictured above) for little kids or big kids for $2.25/sheet. Browse around Paper-Source.com- I'm sure you'll find lots of stuff to love.

Brush Up Your Vocab
These SATees from CafePress.com are a new hot item in funny baby onesies/toddler Ts. They feature all those seldom-heard but often-tested SAT vocabulary words that you probably learned when you were 16 years old but have never used since. Words you could now use to describe your little one in nearly-indecipherable terms. Like "recondite" (difficult to understand), "dilatory" (tending to cause delay), and the above-pictured "pulchritudinous" (beautiful)- which, believe it or not, was actually on my SATs. Geek that I am, I love these shirts, even though I would probably score a 0 on the SATs these days (wait, you get 200 just for entering your name correctly, right?) Dress up your Harvard-bound tot with SATees onesies ($16.99, sizes up to 2T) or shirts ($18.99, sizes up to 4T) from CafePress.com.
p.s. Thanks to MyMomShops reader Jennifer R. for reminding me about CafePress.com.!

My Favorite Things
I've posted over 200 items since starting this blog back in January, and I'm delighted by the feedback I've gotten. Thank you! Several of you have asked me how to locate particular items you've seen here. There are a few ways: 1) you can do a keyword search in the "Search Blog" box on the upper left 2) you can search by "labels" on the left-hand column (scroll down) such as "birthday gifts," "toys," "just for mom," etc. or 3) if you're stuck and can't find something you remember seeing here, please e-mail me and I'll help you out.
From time to time, though, I will re-post some of my favorite items so they don't get buried in the blog. Today I thought I'd mention some of my favorite personalized baby gifts since that seems to be a popular search. Click on the links to read the descriptions. Enjoy!
Favorite Personalized Baby Gifts
1) Baby's First Alphabet Block (shown above) from Craft-E-Family.com.
2) SonyaBebeBlankee from FillInTheBlankie.com.
3) Personalized Photo Growth Chart from MyBambino.com.
4) Roll-Neck Personalized Sweaters from GoToBaby.com.
5) Monogrammed Girls' Jumper from BrownEyedBabyBoutique.com.
Stay tuned for more favorites from past posts...and, of course, lots of new favorite gifts to come.

Good for Gwen
I must be getting old now that when I hear the name "Gwen Stefani" I first think of her kids' clothing line and not her music. This celebrity fashion and music icon (and new mom) launched her clothing line "Harajuku Lovers" last year, inspired by the funky punk princesses in Japan’s Harajuku shopping district. It includes lots of original baby clothes like this Animal Cracker Onesie. It's available in sizes 3-6 months through 12-18 months (also with a matching hat) for $28 at MaddiesCloset.com. Check out other pieces by Harajuku Lovers at MaddiesCloset.com.

Guilt-Free Cake
What to get for the birthday girl (or guy) who has it all and doesn't want anything extra (especially calories)? This Happy Birthday Candleholder is one of the most clever birthday gifts I've seen in a while. It's a birthday cake with zero carbs or fat, but plenty of fun. Each "slice" is a ceramic candleholder which is assembled and decorated by hand. A white birthday candle is included. Zero calories, but $15.99 per piece. Check this out, and other funky gifts, at Ona.com.

Animal Farm
More fun stuff from the Giggle store over on Lexington Avenue in my neighborhood. I spotted these irresistible new animal prints for a child's nursery. These fun graphic wall canvases add the perfect finishing touch to a nursery or kid’s bedroom. The bold black-and-white animals really pop out against the colorful, vibrant patterned backgrounds. Each design is printed onto a high-quality canvas and then stretched over a thick wood frame. They are 12-inch square. My favorites are the Octopus and Pig. And at just $38 apiece, a trip to the farm will be an easy day's work. Check out all the wall decor a Giggle.com.

MyMomShops Sponsor: Baby Bonkin
I'm proud to introduce you to MyMomShops's first sponsor, Baby Bonkin. BabyBonkin.com is a gem of an online boutique specializing in limited edition designer babywear (by the way, the name comes from a family nickname for a bright-eyed, blonde-haired little girl who was toddling and "bonkin” down onto her bottom as she explored). The three women who founded Baby Bonkin search for high-quality, unique clothing that is attractive and comfortable...just right for toddlers who are "bonkin" around. And, always a plus, the clothing is also very reasonably priced.
One of my favorite items on the site is this perfect-for-summer Strawberry Circle Dress & Shorts. It can be worn as either a dress or a shirt (it has resizable straps which allow it to grow with your child). The matching shorts are gathered at the waist and in the legs (I love toddler girls' dresses with matching shorts or bloomers because no one wants a fashionable outfit ruined by the full view of a Disney pullup). Most of all I love the adorable strawberry print on an aqua background. The set is available in sizes 2T or 3T and costs just $19.99. It would make a great gift for a little girl with a spring or summer birthday.
For this and other limited edition babywear, visit BabyBonkin.com.

Mom's Little Gems

There are oodles of Mother's Day gifts from Red Envelope that I want to post about here- the first is this mother's birthstone necklace I have always admired (though, I'm not sure that double green peridot stones for my two August babes would look as pretty as the samples pictured here). Indeed, I think this is an especially pretty necklace when it has 3 or 4 stones in it...so if you're a mom with 3+ kids (hats off to you!) you might be able to make a very pretty creation! The 3mm gemstones are placed on a sterling-silver 1" pendant on a box chain with lobster clasp. Depending on the gemstones you choose, the price ranges from $125 to $1,480 (do you have an April baby? You get a diamond!). Check it out at RedEnvelope.com.

Peace, Baby: MyMomShops Giveaway!
Just in time for Mother's Day, here is a great MyMomShops giveaway. We are offering the "Peace Love Baby" onesie shown here from PeaceLoveMom.com to THREE lucky winners. Founded by 3 very different moms in 2005, PeaceLoveMom.com is a lifestyle brand whose goal is to create a "celebration of motherhood” for all types of mothers. Can't argue with that, right? They sell apparel that celebrates the (mostly) joys, hopes, and dreams of motherhood. The onesie ($25) is 100% combed ringspun cotton with 3 snap closure, and is available in sizes newborn, 6 months, or 12 months. Check out all the baby apparel and cute designs for moms (I like "Balanced Mom"...don't we all wish we were!) for yourself.
Want to win? E-mail me by 8pm on Tuesday, May 8th with "Peace" in the subject line and you could be one of the 3 lucky winners chosen randomly.
Congratulations to our 3 winners: Helen (expectant mom due in July) from Portland, OR; Brooke (mom to S. and V.) from Brooklyn, NY; and Andrea (mom to Cytlin) from Dallas, TX.

Attention Anglophiles
The Queen of England is visiting the U.S.A. right now, and as a former British Royal Family fanatic (ask me about all the times I met Diana and Fergie...no, I'm not kidding), I found this London Bridge Pillow at Well Dressed Home very appealing. Made by designer Supon Phornirunlit, each 16" square pillow features a London Bridge graphic on front and union jack on back. The colors are (my favorite) baby blue and brown, and the design is screen printed on cotton canvas. $39 at WellDressedHome.com.

A Perfect Pram
I keep finding these cool "alternative" doll strollers (you know, ones besides the little plastic umbrella strollers). I love the look of this Natural Doll Pram by modern German toy manufacturer Haba. Others must, too, because it is the winner of the 2005-6 Oppenheim Platinum Toys Award. The pram is made of sturdy solid beech wood (all soft corners), comes with with a fluffy bed set, and is suitable for children ages 1 and up. It rolls smoothly (gotta love that German engineering) and the tires are rimmed in rubber (so no worries about scratches on your floor). Of course, loveliness comes at a price- this stroller will you set you back $119.99. If the grandparents are itching to buy your little girl (or boy) a nice birthday gift, this might be the one! Check it out at Oompa.com.

Big-Time Fun
I took R. on her first visit to FAO Schwarz's flagship NYC store last week. She walked in and said "Wow, Mommy!" During our visit she of course enjoyed the gorgeous dolls and giant stuffed animals, but most of all she loved the famous Dance-On Piano on the 2nd floor- the same one that Tom Hanks's character danced on in the movie "Big" 19 (yes, NINETEEN) years ago. Want to try it at home? You can buy very same Dance-On Piano online if you have $250,000 to burn, but if your budget (and space) is a little smaller try this FAO Schwarz Dance Mat. It is 6 feet of step-on piano keys providing hours of endless entertainment (and exercise) for your kids. It includes pre-recorded songs and also records and plays back your compositions. On sale for $48 (reduced from $60) at FAO Schwarz. Who knows, you may be encouraging a future movie star...

The First Year

This First Year Frame from Pottery Barn Kids hangs in each of my children's rooms (R's is filled, S's is complete up to Month 8) and always draws "awww's" from visitors. It is a lovely momento of your child's first year and personally I find it really fun to choose the photos and see those month-by-month changes. The wooden frame with die-cut mat and white grosgrain ribbon matches just about any nursery decor. This is a thoughtful and unique baby shower or new baby gift. It costs $44 (and shipping is free through July 19th) at PotteryBarnKids.com.

It's a Boy

I devoured this book of essays, It's a Boy: Women Writers on Raising Sons (edited by Andrea Buchanan) during my 2nd pregnancy. I was so thrilled that I was having a boy this time (I felt I had hit the jackpot- 2 healthy kids and the proverbial "1 of each"). But I also felt a little nervous, since I grew up the younger of two sisters and really felt I knew very little about what makes little boys tick. The editor of this anthology (also the mother of a firstborn girl, then a boy) marveled at the responses people gave her during her 2nd pregnancy, like "Boys are wonderful," "Boys are so much better than girls," and "Boys love their mothers differently than girls." She decided to compile this collection of essays- with help from fellow writers and mothers- to explore the experience of mothering boys. The essays tackle topics ranging from aggression, to raising a teenage boy, to hoping for a girl but having a boy. Some essays are funny, some are poignant, and all are enlightening. I highly recommend it for those moms who are raising (or expecting) a little boy. Now that my little guy is 8 months old, I can personally attest that raising a boy is every bit as amazing and intriguing as raising a girl. Buy It's a Boy: Women Writers on Raising Sons
at Amazon.com for $10.17.

That Touch of Mink

My friend S. has a gorgeous pink and brown nursery for her daughter H. and asked me to recommend a personalized nursery pillow. I found this velvety plush Personalized Minky Throw Pillow at (where else?) Etsy.com. This super soft, custom-made 12" x 12" pillow is beautifully embroidered in brown with your choice of one initial, a name, or a 3 letter monogram. There is light pink pom-pom fringe on all sides. It costs $29.50 and lots of other styles and colors of personalized minky pillows are available from the same seller. Visit the Southern Sassy Pants storefront at Etsy.com.

More Sleep, Please

Baby S. was up three times last night, and this item just about says it all. I dream (quite literally) of a decent night's sleep. Maybe when the kids are teenagers, right? This "Mommy Needs Sleep" eyemask costs $12.95 at Sleepyheads.com. A nice treat for the sleep-deprived mom you know (my sympathies if you- like me- are that mom). Now go get some rest.

My Own Stationery

When I saw this Child's Penmanship Stationery at American Stationery, I was taken right back to my childhood. My mom bought me stationery just like it when I was 6 years old and starting to write "letters" to friends and relatives. I loved having stationery with my own name on it, and the lined paper helped keep my handwriting (sort of) legible. I think this would be a nice birthday gift for the young writer in your life. The stationery is white with name and lines printed in Bubblegum Pink, Blue Berry or Red matte ink. Sheets are 5 7/8" x 7 7/8" and come with plain envelopes. A set of 25 sheets and envelopes costs $20 at AmericanStationery.com.

Super Snuggly Blanket
I am one of those moms who thinks you can never have enough blankets for your new baby. One of my personal favorites is this luscious new Little Giraffe Duo Blanket from SleepytimeStore.com. Yes, there are many soft baby blankets on the market, but the ones from Little Giraffe take the cake. This one is plusher than plush, and super snuggly. Trust me. S. and his big sister both love to snuggle on this one. I love the reversible colors, too...I have the one that is traditional Blue on one side, and Mocha with blue satin trim on the other. It is also available in Pink or Celadon green, measures 30” x 33”, and washes very well (I know from experience). If you want to make it an extra special gift, you can have the baby's name embroidered, too, for an extra $15. The regular blanket costs $58 at SleepyTimeStore.com .

What Happens at Grandma's....
I am very lucky that my kids have both sets of grandparents who babysit (and spoil) them at a moment's notice. I try to follow a "don't ask, don't tell" policy since otherwise I will find out that the baby never napped, or that my preschooler ate ice cream three times in one day. In any event, I think this two-sided "Las Grandma's" onesie from Brand New Baby Wear tells it like it is. The front spoofs the "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign and the back says, "What Happens at Grandma's, Stays at Grandma's." It's available in sizes 0-6 months through 18-24 months and costs $24. Visit BrandNewBabyWear.com for more funny designs.
